 ORGIVA - LAS ALPUJARRAS

"CORTIJO GRANDE"...

 ...is a detached mansion surrounded by comprising lush green lawns, exotic plants and shrubs, avocado bushes and olive and orange trees in abundance. The first thing visitors will notice is the beautiful aromas coming from the flowers and blooms. There is also a large swimming pool and the property is surrounded by whitewashed walls and trees for maximum privacy. It is a very peaceful location and visitors can expect a relaxing holiday with only the noise of birds chirping and trees rustling, whilst still being within easy reach of shops and restaurants in the nearby town of Orgiva.

Cortijo Grande has been built with a unique and imaginative approach, blending the architectural style of Granada - tiled roofs and domes - and that of the Alpujarras - flat, beamed ceilings - in perfect harmony with each other.

The rooms are divided on 2 levels. The top floor bedroom has an exit to the upper terrace which offers wonderful views of the gardens and the surrounding mountain valley. It is a lovely place to sit at anytime but particularly evenings and at night when the views of the stars are amazing. The windows looking out from the bedroom are made of restored wood originally from a 4-Star hotel in Granada and give the room a beautiful light, airy feel.

At the front of the house there is also another large terrace covered with grape vines - a lovely place to relax in the shade or eat al fresco. The ground floor entrance leads into a lounge which has a comfortable sitting area with satellite TV and open terracotta fireplace. Next to the lounge there is a well-equipped kitchen with rustic style dining area. There are 2 more bedrooms on the ground floor, both with patio windows leading out to the garden.

Of particular interest is the beautifully designed bathroom. It has a round domed structure in the Arabic style and there are multi-coloured glass tiles which create an impressive light effect when the sun shines through it. The room is also well furnished and there is elegant tiling throughout.

The large, oval swimming pool is situated next to the house and there are sun loungers and sunshades around it. It is for the exclusive use of Cortijo Grande's guests and is also completely secluded from view. There are parking spaces for 2 cars next to the house.

The nearest town, Orgiva is approximately 5 minutes drive and 40 minutes on foot.
It is the main town of the Alpujarras and is a tourist-friendly place useful for shopping, bars and restaurants and also has a 24 hour medical centre. There is a lively market there every Thursday where fruit and vegetables and an array of local produce are sold. Granada or the coastal region are approximately 40 minutes drive.
