HOLIDAY COTTAGE
INLAND COSTA DEL SOL
CORTIJO AVILACortijo Avila is a stylish, traditional Andalusian farmhouse with private swimming pool and beautiful sea views. The house has a 90m² floor space, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. The cottage is situated in a very quiet rural area between the towns of Torrox, Frigiliana and Competa, approximately 8 km inland from Torrox on a south facing hillside.
There is a fantastic view from the house over the rolling hills of the Axarquia to the blue Mediterranean. The nearest costal resorts are Torrox, about a 20 minute drive, and Nerja, 30 minutes on the motorway, which has a number of impressive beaches and cliffs and the old part of town is very picturesque.
Cortijo Avila is the main house on a sizeable farm planted with avocados, olives and vines. It is built in the traditional style of the area with tiled roof and a gabled ceiling inside.
The beautiful terrace in front of the house is a typical stone mosaic pattern enclosed by a big old carob tree, a grape vine, a palm tree and an enormous pine tree which casts shade over the patio. In the spring and summer a magnificent violet flowering Bougainvillea and various bushes provide an abundance of colour and add a touch of Mediterranean flair.
The pool (9 x 4 meters) is situated at the eastern edge of the terrace in front of the house and has breathtaking views, comfortable sun loungers and an outdoor shower. On the western side of the house there is a raised terrace (approximately 20 m²) with a brick barbecue.
The inside of the house has an elongated living room, which connects to the kitchen through an archway, which, in turn, leads out to the terrace. The 3 bedrooms and bathroom with bath and shower are at the back of the house. The living room has satellite TV and an open fireplace. In general, the equipment and furnishing in the house are basic.
The washing machine is in an extra room which serves as a second kitchen. This room is also used for storage.
There are parking spaces for several cars at the back of the house. The last 3.2 km of the approach road to the cottage is a track road which connects to Competa and Torrox. It is drivable from May to the middle of September in a normal car. In bad weather when there is a lot of rain, a sturdier car (Citroen Berlingo, Renault Kangoo, etc) or a 4x4 is recommended.
The cottage is an 8 kilometer drive from the main motorway leading to all the important places of interest in Andalucia. Once on the motorway, Nerja is a 10 to 15 minutes drive away, as too are the stunning beaches and coves between Nerja and Almuñecar. Granada is 1 hour away and the skiing area of the Sierra Nevada is 1½ hours. Malaga airport is 40 minutes.
