The bustling, coastal town of Motril, the largest town on the Costa Tropical, is enclosed to the north, east and west by lofty mountain ranges of up to 2,000 meters which offer immense protection against the elements. Because of this, Motril has a sub-tropical climate almost all year round making it quite unique to the rest of Europe. Indeed, it is the only area where the European avocado flourishes.
Our cottage, Cortijo Lújar is situated 16 km to the east of Motril, nestling in the Sierra Lujar mountains at an altitude of 500 meters. The house is southeast facing and offers absolutely fantastic sea views. It is an extraordinary panorama stretching across the Mediterranean towards Morocco and, just as amazing at night, the views are further enhanced by the quiet, peaceful atmosphere, as the house is located in one of the least populated parts of the Costa del Sol.
The house comprises 100m² with 3 bedrooms, a sizeable lounge with both dining and sofa areas. There is also a covered terrace in front of the house with an al fresco dining area. This leads onto a spacious pool terrace equipped with sun loungers next to a beautiful swimming pool. There is also an outdoor shower by the pool. The terraces total more than 70m² so there is plenty of outdoor space to relax. The entire property is 5700 square feet and completely enclosed by trees and fences to offer maximum privacy.
Cortijo Lújar was originally a family run farm and has been improved and expanded over the years. This gives the place a personal, rustic ambience. The kitchen is spacious and thus ideal for larger groups. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a bathtub and the other with a shower. The kitchen and bathrooms are at the back of the house. The spacious living room is at the front and, as well as the dining area, has a sofa area by the fireplace and satellite dish with international channels (ASTRA). The 3 bedrooms are accessed from here. There is ample parking inside the grounds and the entire driveway is paved for easy access.
From the house, Granada and the ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada are about an hour’s drive and Malaga Airport is approximately 1½ hours. There is a good selection of expansive beaches in and around Motril, especially Calahonda beach which was awarded the Blue Flag.
Next village is Gualchos (10 minutes) drive and there is a small supermarket.
