Casa Gonzalo Capilerilla / Alpujarras

CASA GONZALO is a traditional Alpujarra village house. It is situated on the edge of the of Capilerilla in La Taha de Pitres at 1400 meters altitude on the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada right in the heart of the Alpujarras National Park.

From the terrace of the 2 bedroom house you have a beautiful panoramic view over the Capilerilla rooftops to the impressive valley of the Rio Trevelez and beyond to the Sierra de Contraviesa and on to the coast. On clear winter days one can see as far as the Moroccan Riff Mountains. Paths and walkways lead up and down the beautiful gardens and terraced landscape into out-of-the-way ravines with waterfalls and up even higher into the Sierra Nevada National Park at over 3400 meters.

There are no bars or businesses - all shops, restaurants and medical supplies are 200 meters down the valley in the village of Pitres. The farmer who lives next door, Eugenio, sells fresh cow's milk, mountain cured ham and organic wine. Mules, sheep, goats and pigs are all part of the daily scene. The house is cared for and furnished by Fatima, a weaver who lives in the village. She has good taste and the house is comfortable and basically equipped.

The house consists of the terrace which has garden furniture and a barbecue. This leads into the kitchen and then to the lounge with an attractive open fireplace. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with shower and WC. Parking is available in the village approximately 50 meters from the house. The road from Pitres to Capilerilla has an upward gradient of over 20% in places which some people may find a problem but the location is well worth the effort.

Casa Gonzalo is an ideal starting point for exploring the Sierra Nevada National park. In the nearby village of Pitres there is a vegetarian restaurants, supermarket and some bars. Information on horse riding routes is available on request. In summer there is a public swimming pool at Pitres campsite.
