2 BEDROOM VILLAGE HOUSE
MECINA - FONDALES - ALPUJARRAS

"CASA AFRIKA"...

Casa Afrika, in Mecina Fondales, is a traditional village house in one of the most beautiful and original places of the Alpujarra Natural Park. Completely renovated in 2003, the house lies in a forgotten corner of this small whitewashed village. The narrow streets of the village mean that cars can only park on the main road thus keeping noise and emissions to a minimum. It is a great place for relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life. Mecina Fondales has, despite its location in the mountains, a very mild climate and is a good starting point for some lovely walks, both long and short.

The house itself is two-storeys and has a garden (approximately 75m²) with a small lawn and a covered sitting area by the house. This is the entrance to the house which leads into a cosy lounge with a beautiful fireplace, sitting area and an open plan kitchen. There is a staircase leading to the upper floor which has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet.

Both bedrooms have balconies (both about 6m²), with comfortable outdoor seating and tables. From both balconies there is a wonderful view over the traditional flat roofs of the village to the surrounding Sierras. CASA AFRIKA is a typical example of the Moorish style of architecture in the region which is still very prevalent in the Alpujarras, as is fitting for the last retreat of the Arabs after the fall of Granada. The ceilings of the house are made of chestnut beams and stone and the decor is charming and traditionally rustic.

Pitres, about 10 minutes drive away, is the nearest village for shopping, restaurants, bars, banking and medical supplies. There are also 2 restaurants (one of them vegetarian) and 2 bars in Mecina. A trip to the beaches of the Costa Tropical or Granada takes about 1½ hours.
